托馬斯·卡洛Thomas Carew（1595？-1645？），英國(guó)詩(shī)人，出生于肯特郡的西威克姆。卡洛就讀于牛津大學(xué)。1630年，他成為查理一世宮廷中的一位官員?？迨堑谝晃槐环Q(chēng)為“保皇詩(shī)人”的詩(shī)人。卡洛深受本·瓊生和約翰·多恩的影響，寫(xiě)了許多短歌和愛(ài)情抒情詩(shī)，有些已被作曲家配上樂(lè)曲。他的詩(shī)歌以其意象的優(yōu)美和典雅而著稱(chēng)。

當(dāng)六月過(guò)去，玫瑰凋殘，

別再問(wèn)我，愛(ài)神在哪里。

Ask me no more where Jove bestows,

When June is past, the fading rose;

For in your beauty’s orient deep,

These flowers, as in their causes, sleep.

Ask me no more whither do stray

The golden atoms of the day;

For in pure love heaven did prepare

Those powders to enrich your hair.

Ask me no more whither doth haste

The nightingale, when May is past;

For in your sweet dividing throat

She winters, and keeps warm her note.

Ask me no more where those stars light,

That downwards fall in dead of night;

For in your eyes they sit, and there

Fixed become, as in their sphere.

作品賞析

詩(shī)人不遺余力地歌頌佳人的美，六月的玫瑰、金色的太陽(yáng)、五月的夜鶯以及明亮的繁星，都成了他的比較對(duì)象。但在詩(shī)人的心中，玫瑰、太陽(yáng)和星星都和她相差甚遠(yuǎn)，就連夜鶯的啼叫都比不上她“甜蜜的歌喉”，詩(shī)人對(duì)愛(ài)人的情意表露無(wú)遺！
