燕瑞博(1878—1938),原名Robert William Swallow,英國(guó)人,1878年出生于浙江寧波,1902年在英國(guó)大學(xué)畢業(yè)后返回中國(guó),到山醇大學(xué)任教。1912-1916年在北京大學(xué)預(yù)科任英文教員,第一次世界大戰(zhàn)后在河南福中公司任職。他以研究中國(guó)古董著稱(chēng),在上海英文報(bào)紙《字林西報(bào)》發(fā)表了很多有關(guān)中國(guó)風(fēng)俗及古董的文章。燕瑞博性格狂放不羈,能講一口流利、地道的中文。同中國(guó)人相處融洽,與中國(guó)各階層官員接觸自如無(wú)間。他從教多年,對(duì)中國(guó)學(xué)生十分熟悉。燕瑞博很好地融入了中國(guó)社會(huì),稱(chēng)得上是 “中國(guó)通”。其他著作有 《中國(guó)古鏡圖說(shuō)》(Ancient Chinese Bronze Mirrors,1937)。
